Slow Planes is a Chicago-based outfit playing minimally-composed traveling music. Using traditional folk sounds they build patient, ritual rhythms out of guitar, banjo, brass, violin, drum, percussion, and voice. Taking influence from American improvisation and classical minimalism the six create fragile colored landscapes through hypnotic ballads and primitive dance numbers.
Chris Stephens is a musician who plays the Indian sitar, Egyptian oud, and Chinese pipa. His music is based on improvisation, subtley, and mood. Each performance is an homage to the ancient music of the East and an exploration of a new and modern flavor that creates an enchanted musical scenery.
